SUPERSTORE: KELSO
CWP has identified what it believes to be the best site in Kelso for a superstore. Not only does it provide a quality superstore of the size and layout needed but it also has a number of other significant benefits as detailed below:
1. The development of the CWP site will mean that the Forbes group can consolidate onto one site with the cash it obtains from the sale of their site to CWP. Given that Forbes is one of the biggest employers in Kelso this will safeguard its future in the town.
2. A new 12 acre industrial site will be developed to the rear of the current industrial estate thus providing fully serviced plots of various sizes to the business community of Kelso as well as inward investors.
3. The road network shall be significantly improved by the construction of a roundabout which will do away with the current road network which is a very dangerous staggered junction.
4. Scottish Borders Council will receive a significant cash receipt for the sale of part of the site which is owned by them. The site in question has a large building on it which has been lying vacant for nearly 5 years.
5. The Kelso common good fund will receive a cash injection of £100,000 from the development partnership of CWP, Forbes and Sainsbury's.
CWP is hopeful that commonsense will prevail and that CWP's site shall be allocated for the superstore.
